Eastern Bar Forum (EBF) endorsed candidate for the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Presidency and Chairman of the NBA Criminal Justice and Law Reform Committee, Chief Arthur Obi Okafor SAN, has commiserated with the family of late Amechi A. Onumajulu.
In a stetment released by his office, Obi Okafor expressed shock at disbelief at the news of Onwumajulu’s demise.
The statement read: “It is with utmost shock and disbelief that I received the untimely dimise of Amechi A. Onumajulu Esq who passed on to eternal glory in the early hours of last Tuesda, following a protracted illness”
“Our late colleague, a committed human rights activist was a patriot who dedicated his life to the protection of the vulnerable in our society and used the instrumentality of the law to fight for the defence of their rights”.
Describing the deceased as a man of impeccable character, Obi Okafor said that Onumajulu brought his passion to bear in his professional calling as a legal practitioner and maintained an excellent relationship with colleagues in his local branch and the Nigerian Bar Association as a whole.
“My sincere condolences go his immediate family members and the Owerri branch of our noble association. Though he left at a time we needed him most, he has gone to a better place to rest, till we meet again. I pray the Almighty to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss” he said.
Onwumajulu an Owerri based Legal practitioner and human rights activist passed on in the early hours of Tuesday the 30th day of Jan 2018 following a protracted illness. He was the younger brother of a former Chief judge of imo state Hon Justice P.C. Onumajulu OFR and father of the Eastern Bar Forum/Young Lawyers Forum (EBF/YLF) General Secretary, Ekezie Onumajulu Esq.
